The work and role of  leadership is sacred  and makes Judaism relevant and present
for our people during times of distress, transition, and joy.

Rabbi Mark Cohn

Rabbi Mark Cohn proudly serves as the rabbi for Temple Sholom of New Milford, CT. He worked over 20 years as the rabbi of Temple Emanuel in Winston-Salem, NC, and was granted the title of “Emeritus” upon completion of his duties there. Judaism, Jewish communal living, and Israel are all central to his life as a Jew and as a rabbi. His formal education comes from the University of California at Los Angeles (BA, History, 1990), Lehigh University (MA, History, 1993), and the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (MAHL, 1997; Ordination, 1998; Honorary DD, 2023). His informal education comes from being a husband, a father, a gardener, and a guitar player. He is married to Rabbi Amy Wallk, who serves as the senior rabbi at Temple Beth El in Springfield, MA.

As he states “Working with Temple Sholom since July 2023, I feel very blessed to have found a congregation of warm and welcoming souls – searching for meaningful Jewish life and community. Nestled in the beautiful terrain of Litchfield County with the Housatonic River flowing behind the temple’s property, I help share, teach, guide, and imagine what Jewish life is–and can be–for New Milford and beyond.”
