Getting to Know

Jeremy Stone

Jeremy serves as Temple Sholom’s 2nd Vice President. He and his wife Susan have been Temple Sholom members for almost 16 years, having joined when they moved to Pawling from Briarcliff Manor, New York, in 2009.

Although raised in Denver, Colorado, where his study of piano was rigorous, Jeremy headed east to attend Yale and graduated in the early 1970s with a degree in psychology and the intent to eventually further his study in medicine. However, not feeling quite ready to apply to medical school, he remained on the East Coast, pursuing a successful career in the music business. He became the musical director of the original Broadway production of Grease. He also composed music for a variety of broadcast commercials and sitcom scores. In mid-life, he felt the pull to return to his original course of study at Yale, and in the 1990s devoted himself full-time to the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at New York University. He then joined the faculty of Weill Cornell Medicine at the Westchester Division of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where he founded and directed an outpatient program for self-injuring adolescents. Now semi-retired, he has immersed himself in Temple life and has returned to his love of music with additional concentrated piano study.

He and Susan have been married 48 years and are blessed to be able to share time with daughter Jamie, son Seth, and daughter-in-law Rachel.

Jeremy shared, “Growing up as a rabbi’s son, I always felt at home at my Dad’s Temple. When Susan and I first visited Temple Sholom, we were greeted with warmth and welcome. I’m grateful that the Temple continues to offer us a spiritual and communal Jewish home.”
